Watch Sylo’s intimate, soulful performance at the Baby G
Much of Toronto alt-R&B artist Sylo’s career has taken place during a global pandemic, from his 2020 hit “Ginny” to his latest EP, Blanket. It’s no wonder he craves the in-person connection with fans at a live concert. “Playing live is my favourite way of connecting with fans,” he tells CBC Music, ahead of his headlining show at Toronto’s The Baby G in March. “Especially in an age where everything is so social media-based, everything is so internet-based [...] I just hope this is the aspect of the music industry that never goes away.” According to Sylo, there’s an energy that is exchanged between artist and fan in those spaces, and it’s definitely palpable in his energetic and soulful set, from him feeling the warmth of the room to literally hopping into the crowd to dance and perform.
