Protecting the children: Canadian pedophiles in Cambodia
Many Canadian sexual predators travel abroad to prey on the most vulnerable victims — children.
Cambodia, a mecca for sexual tourism, is alluring to pedophiles as streets are awash with unsupervised children peddling trinkets to tourists and authorities who have little interest in their crimes.
Canada has a law that allows Canadian police to bring predators who commit crimes against children abroad to face justice at home, however, the number of convictions are low compared to other countries with similar laws.
Non-governmental organizations, such as Action Pour Les Infants, have stepped in to fill the apparent gaps in policing predators in Cambodia. The group says the RCMP is slow in responding to pleas for help compared to authorities in other countries.
Radio-Canada’s Mimi Wells has more on this story in a special report called Protecting the Children.
