Suge Knight arrested on drug, assault charges
Suge Knight, a West Coast rapper and music mogul, has been arrested in Las Vegas on charges of drug possession and assault, police say.
Knight, whose real name is Marion Hugh Knight, was arrested in Las Vegas on Wednesday and remains in custody.
Police said they received telephone reports of a car hitting a curb in the Las Vegas strip and a man beating a woman who ran from the car.
"The victim purposely grabbed the steering wheel and caused the vehicle to hit the curb," police said in a statement.
The man was found standing over his girlfriend with a knife in his hand, police said, and was allegedly in possession of ecstasy and hyrocodone, a painkiller.
The woman, who was not stabbed, was treated in hospital and released, police said.
Knight has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a controlled substance, possession of dangerous drugs without a prescription and battery domestic violence, police said.
Knight, a co-founder of Death Row Records, has previously been convicted of assault and faced charges earlier this year of uttering death threats.
He filed for bankruptcy in August 2006 amid litigation involving Death Row Records, which has since been sold.
His lawyers, David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld, declined to comment.
