Michael Jackson to appear at World Music Awards in U.K.
Pop singer Michael Jackson will be coming out of seclusion in November for a public appearance at the World Music Awards in London, England, organizers announced Sunday.
Jackson has been living in Bahrain and Ireland since being acquitted of child molestation charges in June 2005.
He rarely performs or appears at public events anymore.
The World Music Awards will present him with a Diamond Award, a prize for artists who sell more than 100 million albums.
"We are thrilled to be bringing the World Music Awards to London, the music capital of the world," said founder Melissa Corken.
"The U.K. is the home of many of the world's greatest selling artists of all time. The presence of Michael Jackson is very exciting for us."
Jackson last performed in Britain in 1997. In 2001, he addressed the Oxford Union student debating society.
The ceremony takes place 25 years after the release of Thriller, Jackson's best-selling work, which sold 40 million copies worldwide.
The World Music Awards, which selects winners based on numbers of albums sold worldwide,were held in Monaco for 15 years before moving to theUnited Statesin 2004 and 2005. It is the first time it will be held in Britain.
This year's event takes place Nov. 15 at London's Earls Court Arena.
Lindsay Lohan is hosting the award and Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, Katie Melua and Andrea Bocelli plan to perform.
