Gabereau gabfest comes to an end

Vicki Gabereau has taped the final episode of her television talk show.

Television talk-show host Vicki Gabereau has conducted her final interview for her CTV show.

The genial Gabereau, who has hosted an afternoon chatfest for CTV since 1997, taped the final episode on Wednesday.

The finale features Gabereau talking to some of her favourite guests, including singer Jann Arden, and Corner Gas star Brent Butt. It will air on April 13.

"I'm not retiring, just moving on to the next thing," Gabereau said. "I'll take the summer to think about what I want to do, but moving to Las Vegas and advancing my career as a fan dancer is definitely one of my options."

Known for her quick sense of humour and warm, non-threatening style, Gabereau has interviewed more than 3,000 guests on TV. Before she made the jump to the small screen, she began her national broadcasting career as a host for CBC Radio.

"We hold the Gemini [Award] for best talk show, and I want to leave the world of daily television on a winning note," she added. "I'm 58 and ready for a change of pace."

"Vicki Gabereau is beloved," CTV executive Susanne Boyce said. "It has been a privilege for CTV to work with her for the past eight years."

British singer Elvis Costello also appears as a guest on the final episode. His wife, jazz crooner Diana Krall, appears via video link.

CTV will continue to air repeats of Vicki Gabereau, which was originally titled Gabereau Live!.
