A tornado touched down late Tuesday afternoon in Leamington, Ont., according to researchers.

The Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) says based on video and photo evidence, along with radar, a twister hit around 5:35 p.m. ET in the area of Albuna.

"The parent storm was developing rapidly at that time and had no rotation on radar — making it a 'landspout'-type tornado," said the Western University research group in an online post.

The NTP says no damage was reported and it has no plans for a field survey at this point.

Significant rainfall was reported in the Leamington and Wheatley area on Tuesday, leading to flooding at a retirement home, displacing some residents.

Canada's first tornado of the season was in March in the Amherstburg area.
