It looks like a lot of people in Windsor heard Maya Mikhael's call-out.

The 10-year-old had spoken to CBC Radio's Windsor Morning ahead of the weekend about the annual lemonade stand event at the Real Canadian Superstore on Walker Road.

Over the weekend, Maya and some of her friends, were at the grocery store serving lemonade in a bid to get people to donate money to several local charities.

They report having raised $2,833, which will be given to the Downtown Mission, the Windsor Youth Centre and the Salvation Army.

It was the third year the event was held at the Walker Road grocery store. It began after Maya saw a homeless man looking for food on a family vacation, an event which spurred her to make a difference in her community.
