Canada Post won't be sticking around the Paul Martin Building in downtown Windsor.

The union says the Crown corporation has advised that about 50 postal workers will be moving from the building at 185 Ouellette Ave., to a location on Walker Road.

"They told us about it Monday and kind of confirmed it Monday," said Jeff Carroll, the president of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, Local 630, in a telephone interview with CBC News on Wednesday.

"They are moving the carriers and the clerks out of the downtown post office...and they are moving them to our plant on Walker Road."

Carroll told CBC News that Canada Post had said it was too costly for them to continue to lease the space within the building.

"The biggest reason is that they have the room at the plant and they are paying high lease payments," he said.

Canada Post could not immediately be reached for comment. A voicemail message and email were left for its media relations staff on Wednesday evening.
