Toronto police identify victim of Wednesday's shooting as Parmvir Chahil
A Windsor, Ont. man died on Wednesday after he was shot several times in an underground parking garage in downtown Toronto, police say.
Toronto police identified the victim as Parmvir Chahil, 27. Chahil is the city's 59th homicide victim of the year.
Police say they were called to the parking garage at 388 Yonge St., near Gerrard Street East, at 7:17 p.m.
In a news release on Thursday, police said Chahil was shot in the parking garage and emergency services personnel tried to save his life but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said in the release that the suspect fled the area in a newer model silver SUV.
On Wednesday night, Duty Insp. Peter Wehby told reporters near the scene that the shooting was targeted.
"We don't believe that there's any risk to the public," he said.
Wehby said the parking at the garage is exclusive to tenants and their visitors.
Police said anyone who witnessed the shooting, or who was in the parking garage at the time of the shooting and has dashcam footage, should come forward to investigators.
