Sheena Williams said she was distraught when the two animals ran off with her dog, named Kobe, while she was taking him for an evening walk. Two men pulled up, one of whom ran to her and chased after the dogs.

"We want to find him because [of what] he did, that's the only reason we got Kobe back," Williams said. "If it wasn't for those two guys we wouldn't have had him. I didn't know what to do."

"He was just going at him... I tried to grab Kobe and I got him a little bit but I fell back and then he got him back again."

Williams said she tried to wrestle Kobe from the dogs and wound up with her hand in one of their mouths.

"I tried to pry his mouth open ... and I did but at that time the leash came off of Kobe and he just grabbed him ..."

That's when Williams said two men who just happened to be driving by stopped and one ran out to her.

"I said 'He's got my dog!' Just like that... he turned and chased them."

Mississauga Animal Services said they received four separate calls that Friday evening between 7:25 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. about two German Shepherds running at large in the area of Lincoln Green Way, Sheridan Park Drive and surrounding streets.

The muscles around his ribs destroyed and his lungs bruised, Kobe was taken to an animal clinic with life-threatening injuries. He had to be transferred to an ICU in Guelph for surgery and is stable now but remains in critical condition.

The family has already racked up over $10,000 in fees and veterinarians say that could go up to $17,000 after all is said and done.

Williams' daughter Erynne has launched a GoFundMe campaign and has raised just over $3000 so far.
