Cineplex Cinemas is expanding its first class section of the movies with a VIP theatre in the west end.

The cinemas located on the Queensway offer:

  • Expanded seat space and legroom.
  • Food and beverage service including alcoholic drinks and a menu of "specialty appetizers and entrees".
  • Reserved seating.

There is even a separate entrance and valet parking during designated peak periods. Only those over the age of 19 are admitted, no matter the rating on the film.

These perks come at a cost of $19.99 a film — $7 more than a regular ticket.

Fittingly, the high-end theatre experience in Toronto began at Varsity Cinemas in Yorkville, one of the city's tonier neighbourhoods. Cineplex plans three more VIP cinemas, at Yonge and Eglinton, Yonge-Dundas (to open in spring 2014) and Don Mills (to open in late 2014). Besides Toronto, VIP cinemas exist in Oakville, London, Edmonton and Coquitlam, B.C.

“VIP Cinemas have been overwhelmingly popular, offering an intimate, red carpet escape that truly re-defines the movie-going experience,” said Ellis Jacob, the head of Cineplex Entertainment.
