Nipigon teen charged with attempted murder

A 19-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after "a domestic incident" at a residence in Nipigon, OPP say.

Police said the incident occurred on Thursday evening and involved a 17-year-old victim who was "repeatedly assaulted."

The accused fled the scene on foot before police arrived. OPP said his name will not be released in an effort to protect the identity of the victim. 

In addition to attempted murder, the teen is charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, attempting to overcome resistance by choking, suffocating or strangling, uttering death threats and failure to comply with a probation order.

He is scheduled to appear in court in Thunder Bay on Oct. 28.
