Man charged with attempted murder after propane line severed

A 49-year-old Hurkett area man has been charged with attempted murder after someone tried to set a propane fire outside a home, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.

A 49-year-old Hurkett area man has been charged with attempted murder after someone tried to set a propane fire outside a home, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.

A man in Stirling Township [between Thunder Bay and Nipigon] told police that when he awoke on Monday morning, he couldn’t leave his home because the door was jammed from the outside.

Police said the man managed to force his way out and found a line from his propane tank had been cut, with "a source of ignition placed beneath the venting propane fuel."

The OPP are not disclosing the nature of the ignition source at this time.

Richard Joseph Grandbois is charged with attempted murder, attempted arson and mischief endangering life.

Police said the two men are known to each other. 

He will appear in court on May 13.
