Representatives for Detour Gold are slated to make an appearance in a Cochrane, Ont., courtroom on Tuesday in connection with the 2015 death of a man at a mining operation near Cochrane.

On June 3, 2015, OPP said 52-year-old Denis Millette of Matheson was fixing some equipment at the mine. He went into medical distress, and was seen by on-site medical staff.

Despite that help, Millette died, and Ontario Provincial Police said in April that the cause was acute cyanide intoxication.

Detour Gold is charged with criminal negligence causing death, and the police investigation remains open.

The June 2015 death of 52-year-old Denis Millette, who was working at a Detour Gold mine near Cochrane, was caused by acute cyanide intoxication. A few weeks following the incident, the Ministry of Labour ordered Detour Gold to ensure first aid responders received adequate training and to install oxygen kits in high-visibility areas.
