A woman gave birth in the washroom of a Montana's Cookhouse restaurant in Saskatoon Wednesday night.

The woman was in the restaurant around 11 p.m. CST to pick up a take-out order. She was with her partner and, while they were waiting for the order, the woman went to use the washroom.

Staff heard sounds of distress and server Chelsey Friske said she went to check on the woman. Realizing she needed help, Friske hurried to call 911.

By the time she returned to the washroom, the baby — a girl — had arrived.

"When I went back into the bathroom, she had opened the bathroom stall and was holding a baby in her lap," Friske said. "She had delivered a baby herself in the bathroom."

Paramedics arrived and provided further help.

Friske said she heard the couple is considering naming the child Montana.

"I can't say that that's ever happened to me before, walking into a bathroom and seeing that," she added. "But it was crazy."
