Saskatoon apartment evacuated due to natural gas leak
Fire department responded to reports of a chemical smell
Residents of an apartment on the 300 block of Pendygrasse Road had to evacuate Thursday afternoon due to reports of a chemical smell inside the building.
At about 12:30 p.m., the Saskatoon Fire Department responded to reports of a chemical smell in an apartment building.
The fire department sent two engines, one hazmat engine, a decontamination unit, an aerial unit, the battalion chief and an emergency mobile command vehicle.
Crews wore protective gear while they investigated the cause of the smell.
Carbon monoxide was detected near a heat duct in the building and the fire department says SaskEnergy identified a natural gas leak.
Residents were allowed to return to their suites once the gas leak was stopped and carbon monoxide readings were zero parts per million.
