Male found injured in Pleasant Hill is dead, police confirm
Lifesaving measures were attempted but unsuccessful
The male person found injured in Saskatoon's Pleasant Hill neighbourhood Sunday morning is dead, police have now confirmed.
Many police vehicles were clustered on a stretch of 20th Street W between Avenues R and T S late Sunday morning. Officers had also taped off nearby alleys.
Police said they received a call about the injured person just after 10 a.m.
The male, who has not yet been identified and whose age has yet to be confirmed, was found between Avenues R and S.
"Police and Medavie services responded and attempted life saving measures but were unsuccessful," according to the police's afternoon update.
The person was taken to hospital.
No other details, including the type of the injury, were released. The police force's major crimes unit is investigating the death.
Pleasant Hill residents have voiced concern about the wave of crime in the neighbourhood this year.
Of the nine homicides that have taken place in Saskatoon this year, three took place within a one-week span in Pleasant Hill from late June to early July. Police responded by increasing their patrols in the area.
'It is commonplace'
Shelley Barron lives close to where the injured man was found Sunday.
"There's a huge police presence here and I'm hoping that because there are so many around and officers leaving in their vehicles that they will be able to find whoever did this," she said.
"It is commonplace and it's become really sad," she said of crime in the area. "It's 10:30 a.m. or 1 a.m. on a Sunday and someone has quite possibly lost their life. It's become ridiculous that this is what's going on in this area."
