SaskPower CEO apologizes for smart meters
The message from CEO Robert Watson was posted on SaskPower's website Tuesday evening
After weeks of worry and speculation around SaskPower’s smart meters, the power company’s CEO is saying sorry to its customers.
SaskPower posted the message from Robert Watson on its website Tuesday evening.
“I want to personally apologize. I want you to know my family has a smart meter on our home. I understand how important it is for you to know your home is safe,” the statement from Watson says in part.

Last week, the provincial government ordered that SaskPower replace the smart meters. The replacement will cost the crown corporation about $47 million and take six to nine months to complete.
Costs include the initial installation of the units, cost of stock on hand for units that were going to be installed, the cost for labour to remove installed smart meters and the cost of purchasing a non-smart meter product.
Right now 105,000 customers have smart meters in Saskatchewan.
The program began in October of 2013.
