Saskatchewan gold mine begins production
A gold mine in northern Saskatchewan that employs about 85 people has started production.
The Golden Band Resources-owned mine north of La Ronge, Sask., will process 400 tonnes of ore a day.
'Any time is a good time to have a gold mine.' — Gary Haywood, vice-president of Golden Band Resources
The Saskatchewan-based company started refurbishing the site in June.
Company vice-president Gary Haywood says gold prices are at record highs.
"Any time is a good time to have a gold mine, but obviously when prices are at record highs, then it makes it that much better for us," he said.
Gold's high value means the company can develop new sites more quickly.
"As we start producing gold and getting revenue back from gold sales, we can put more money back into the company in terms of developing other deposits and expanding the company," he said.
Golden Band hopes to start production at a new mine early next year.
