Many people have crossed the top of Castle Butte in the badlands of the Big Muddy Valley, but usually on foot.

J.D. Guignard had a different idea. He recently took on the 60-metre-high formation on a unicycle.

Guignard is a stunt performer based out of Palmer, Sask. He specializes in stunts using skateboards, bikes, cars, motorcycles and unicycles.

This latest feat at Castle Butte, located about 170 kilometres southwest of Regina, is part of building up his online presence, he said.

He currently does stunts in small films and hopes to expand his career.

He said he felt this stunt was pretty safe although the ridge is only a metre wide in spots and he admits it was difficult working with the wind.

"It wasn't too bad but it was going with the ridge so it kind of blew me down it," he said.

Previous stunts in Saskatchewan

Guignard is originally from Windsor, Ont., but eight years ago while on his way to Whistler, B.C., to go mountain biking, he stopped in Palmer to visit a cousin.

He just kept coming back.

Since then, he's performed many stunts in Saskatchewan including a recent one where he rode a motorcycle through a wood wall that was on fire.

He also got attention when he travelled down a Saskatchewan highway in 2015 on a skateboard. Because of the strong winds that day, he estimates he went 60 km/h.
