Hockey player faces charges in Sask. referee attack
Police are searching fora 21-year-old man who faces several charges after a referee was attacked during a hockey game near Meadow Lake,Sask.,on Sunday.
The incident happened on the Makwa SahgaiehcanFirst Nation around 11:30 a.m. during atournamentat the local arena.
A player whohad been penalized and was being ejected from the game allegedlycross-checked the 45-year-old referee across the face with a hockey stick, RCMP said.
The referee, Dale Neudorf, fell to the ice and was then beaten, witnesses said.
Hewas rushed to hospital in Meadow Lake with facial injuries and was later transferred to a Saskatoon hospital for further treatment.
His brother, Larry Neudorf, saidDale will have to undergo more tests and will need some treatment for a broken nose.
"He looks good. He just doesn't remember the incident, and his short-term memory has been lost," he told CBC News.
RCMPissued an arrest warrant on Monday forNolan Crighton, who is wanted on charges of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and breach of recognizance.
