A Quebec man in his 40s has become the second person in the province and fifth Canadian to die after contracting swine flu, public health officials reported Saturday.
Dr. Alain Poirier, Quebec's director of public health, said the man was from Montreal and had underlying health problems that had weakened his immune system.
Earlier this week, Poirier announced a woman from the Quebec City area had died three days after she began showing symptoms of the virus.
Two Toronto men who had the H1N1 virus died in May while a northern Alberta woman, 39, died in late April.
There have been more than 3,500 cases of the H1N1 influenza virus reported across the country.
