The Girl Guides of Canada's P.E.I. chapter has organized a special rally for this weekend that it hopes will help attract more girls interested in joining the program.

We have a great program. We do fun things. We don't just camp.- Carolyn Cockram, P.E.I. Girl Guides

The outdoor rally will take place at Charlottetown's Victoria Park on Saturday and will feature games and activities, including laser tag and scavenger hunts. More than 200 girls and their leaders from P.E.I. and New Brunswick are expected to attend. Girl Guide officials on P.E.I. also hope members of the general public will also take part in the event.

Trying to recruit new members

Organizers say their membership numbers have dropped in the last five years, so they are hoping to recruit more girls for the program.

This year will be the first time the girl guides on P.E.I. will host a rally. There are also rallies happening at the same time in New Brunswick.

Carolyn Cockram, membership advisor for the Girl Guides on P.E.I. said the province's chapter needs more members and troop leaders. She emphasized the program features a wide range of activities and opportunities for girls. She called it a great "sisterhood" for participants and leaders alike.

"We have a great program. We do fun things. We don't just camp," Cockram said. "We do lots of activities. We do service projects. We sell cookies. We do great things for the girls."
