A plan to open P.E.I.'s Brookvale Provincial Ski Park as early as Sunday has melted away with temperatures well above normal to end the week.

Normal high temperatures for this time of year are -1 C, with overnight lows of -9 C. By midday on Friday it was 7 C, with a forecast overnight low of 2 C.

"Unfortunately the weather hasn't co-operated with us," said assistant park superintendent Erin Curley.

"Typically we need consistent temperatures of -4 C to -6 C to get started."

The park had hoped a new snow-making gun would allow for an earlier opening.

Curley was not able to speculate on when the park might open.
