Positions to help deal with growing number of Islanders who have addictions

Prince Edward Island has filled two new front-line positions in addictions treatment.

Earlier this month, the province hired a patient navigator to help Islanders access support and treatment. It has also hired a outreach social worker to develop individual case plans for clients.

A third key role, that of complex case coordinator is expected to be filled very soon. That employee will help coordinate services for the most complicated cases.

The positions were announced last November when the province laid out its new plan for dealing with a growing number of Islanders with prescription drug and other addictions.
