Nearly a dozen Gatineau homes were evacuated Monday night due to a drunken quarrel between roommates that involved a gun, police say.

It happened at about 8:30 p.m. on Monday at a residence on Oxford Street, near Saint-Louis Street and the Gatineau River.

A 53-year-old man, who was intoxicated, allegedly pointed a loaded gun at his roommate during a quarrel, Gatineau police said.

The roommate was outside of the home by the time officers arrived, and about 10 nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution while police dealt with the situation. Residents were sheltered in a bus.

There was no phone in the house, police said, so officers used a loudspeaker to talk to the suspect.

He was arrested at around 10:15 p.m. and is facing charges including uttering death threats and firearm violations.
