WW II veteran Larry Hartman humbled by messages of support
On Friday, Hartman came to CBC News to view archival footage of himself
Second World War veteran Larry Hartman was overwhelmed and humbled by seeing himself on archival footage from CBC's Corvette Navy Heritage Series.
The surprises didn't stop there. Hartman received many thank you's from online commenters on a CBC article about his visit to HMCS Sackville.
"It's unbelievable," he said about seeing himself on a video shot more than 70 years ago.
Hartman came with his family on Friday to the CBC Nova Scotia studios to view the footage and see the support he is receiving online.
"The comments, they're all wonderful! Thank you to everybody for that," said Hartman.
The article has been viewed across the country and shared almost 300 times.
Hartman's daughter, Candace, said her father was perplexed when he heard people would want to talk to him.
"I think it's because he lived in extraordinary times, everyone went to war, including him, so he wasn't special, but today it is unusual," she said.
Through all of this, Hartman is searching for one of his friends from the war: Alf Geldard.
"Hello Alf, if you're still around," he said.
Geldard was a coder who worked with Hartman in the wireless radio office on HMCS Sackville.
