An inmate died in a Nova Scotia prison on Saturday, said Correctional Service Canada.

Terrance Matchett, a prisoner at the Springhill Institution, was found unresponsive in his cell over the weekend, officials said Monday.

Shannon Oickle, a spokesperson for the prison, said staff did CPR and called emergency services, but Matchett was not revived.

She said the 63-year-old man was serving a three-year sentence for aggravated assault. He'd been in prison since February 2013.

There's no word on the cause of death.

The police and coroner have been notified, as has Matchett's family, Oickle said. Correctional Service Canada will review the incident.
