Keep your eyes peeled for a deer on the loose if you're in downtown Halifax today.

The deer — a doe, to be accurate — was spotted in the south end of the city early Wednesday afternoon, looking a little lost. One resident caught it on video and posted it to Twitter.

Heather Dunfield saw it while driving up Spring Garden Road.

"All of a sudden the deer jumped within inches of our truck and we slammed the brakes on," Dunfield said. "She's scared, just weaving in and out."

The deer then ran towards the fence around the Public Gardens.

"[She] just started ramming her little head into the fence. And then she ran up and down the sidewalk."

The doe then turned onto Summer Street and was later spotted near the Dalhousie University campus.

The Department of Natural Resources is in the area to locate the doe. They advise people not to try to corral or chase the animal. To report its location, the toll-free wildlife line is 1-800-565-2224.
