Whitehorse teen dies after motorbike crash
An 18 year-old Whitehorse student died in hospital this week following a crash on his motorbike Monday afternoon.
Cody Kelpin, a Grade 12 student at Porter Creek high school, crashed his motorbike on 12th Avenue.
RCMP said witnesses reported the teen was "popping wheelies" before attempting to pass between the curb and the passenger side of a car.
Police said the bike hit the curb and sent the rider skidding down the road.
Kelpin was medevaced to a Vancouver hospital where he died on Wednesday. Brendan Kelly, principal at Porter Creek high school, said Kelpin's death has hit staff and students hard.
"We have set in place grief counselling and support for our staff and students," he said. "We wish to extend our deep sympathies to his family and friends. He was a good student and a good person."
Police are still investigating Kelpin's death. Their report will be given to the coroner’s service.
