Travis Casaway under court order to stay away from children
Offender convicted of sexual assault and sexual assault with a weapon
Convicted sex offender Travis Casaway must stay away from children under a order placed on him by the N.W.T. territorial court.
Yellowknife RCMP issued a warning Thursday about Casaway, who they said "poses a risk of significant harm to the public." Casaway, 27, has convictions for sexual assault and sexual assault with a weapon.
There are nine conditions Casaway must now abide by, including not having contact with any children under the age of 16 aside from family members. He must also stay away from schools, parks, the pool, the public library and anywhere else where there are children under the age of 16.
He is also required to be of good behaviour and is not permitted to drink alcohol or go into a bar.
RCMP say anyone seeing Casaway break one of these conditions should call the Yellowknife detachment. They also say making this information public "is not intended to encourage people to engage in any form of vigilante action."
Police also issued a second news release reminding the public to take reasonable measures to protect their personal safety, including staying in well-lighted, high-traffic areas at night and, for parents, knowing the whereabouts of their children at all times.
