A woman is being treated in hospital following an alleged serious assault early Thursday morning in Natuashish.

A 35-year-old woman is being treated in hospital following an alleged serious assault early Thursday morning in Natuashish.

In a release issued on Thursday morning, the RCMP said officers responded to a domestic disturbance at a home in the community shortly before 3 a.m.

Police said the man ran from the house, but after a short foot chase, officers caught up with the 36-year-old and made the arrest.

While the woman's life is not at stake, police describe the alleged assault as serious.

The victim was treated at a local clinic before being flown to hospital in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

Her partner has been charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest.

He is scheduled to appear in provincial court on Thursday.
