Vale Inco, union to talk on Voisey's strike
The owner of the Voisey's Bay nickel mine and the union representing more than 200 striking workers have agreed to work with a conciliator.
The owner of the Voisey's Bay nickel mine in northern Labrador and the union representing more than 200 striking workers have agreed to negotiations to settle a long-running dispute.
Members of the United Steelworkers launched a strike on Aug. 1, protesting the company's demands for a wage freeze and a rollback on bonuses.
The two sides have agreed to meet with a conciliator on March 15-16.
The strike involves Vale Inco workers, catering staff and security personnel at the Voisey's Bay mine.
Talks in early January accomplished very little in resolving the strike, and led to Vale Inco's decision to restart mine operations without the striking workers.
