Tara Maher, accused of hitting cop with stolen car, surrenders

Tara Maher, who was described in a police bulletin this weekend as violent and dangerous, turned herself in to authorities in St. John's Monday.

Tara Maher, who was described in a weekend police bulletin as violent and dangerous, turned herself in to authorities in St. John's Monday. 

Maher, 28, presented herself to provincial court in downtown St. John's, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said.

Maher was wanted on a number of charges connected to an incident last Monday in Mount Pearl, in which an officer investigating a shoplifting complaint was struck in a parking lot. 

Police said they believe Maher was behind the wheel, and that the car she was driving was stolen. 

Police said the car left the scene in a dangerous manner. 

Maher was wanted on a variety of charges, including assault with a weapon against a peace officer, three counts of theft under $5,000, driving while prohibited, breach of probation, dangerous operation of a vehicle, possession of stolen property and leaving the scene of an accident.
