Councillor readying motion in St. John's council to support bag ban
A ban on plastic bags in the City of St. John's would be a "perfect step forward" to care for the environment, according to Councillor Sheilagh O'Leary.
O'Leary toured the landfill in St. John's on Tuesday, and told Here and Now's Jonathan Crowe she couldn't ignore the plastic bags on site.

"It is quite substantial when we were on our way in ... all I could see were those single-use plastic bags," she said.
"That's the thing that my eye went to immediately."
O'Leary said plastic bags pollute the environment, marine life and even work their way into human diets.
