The author of a bestselling book is excited that her novel is being adapted into a television series, starring Republic of Doyle star Allan Hawco.

Hawco announced on Wednesday that his Take the Shot production company teamed with Entertainment One to create a series based on Lisa Moore's thriller Caught.

"It's fantastic — I'm so excited," Moore told CBC News.

Moore said she first heard about the idea for the series from Hawco.

"I got a phone call from Allan, and he said, 'Lisa, I've read your book and I'd really love to work with you,' and I tried to play it cool," Moore said.

"I said, 'Oh, that sounds really interesting Allan,' but really, my heart was just banging in my chest and I thought it was just such a thrill."

Set in 1978, Caught follows David Slaney, a man busted for smuggling a boat-load of marijuana into Newfoundland and Labrador. The role is going to be played by Hawco.

Moore said she's excited to see her book interpreted for the small screen.

"My writing tends to be driven by images, and I love film. I didn't write it thinking it would be a TV series, but when Allan called I thought that it would look so beautiful. It's the 70s and the clothes are so great, and the hair is so great," she said.

"It's a story about being on the run, and so I think there's lots of opportunity for covering ground."

Moore said she's looking forward to seeing how her story transforms and changes as its written for a new medium.

A previous novel of Moore's, February, has previously been adapted for stage.

Caught was a finalist for the Scotiabank Giller Prize last year. The TV series will air on CBC Television.
