Drivers in Newfoundland and Labrador who have become accustomed to dropping gas prices each Thursday were rewarded again today.

The Public Utilities Board dropped the ceiling on prices that retailers are allowed to charge, with an across-the-board ruling that makes all grades of gas cheaper by 2.0 cents.

Prices now are the lowest they have been since early December in 2010.

The drop may be slightly less in some pricing zones of the province.

The change brings the maximum price of a litre of self-serve gas on the Avalon Peninsula to $1.171. The maximum prices in other areas are generally higher.

Some retailers on the Northeast Avalon, though, have been charging considerably less in recent days to lure customers.

Meanwhile, diesel fuel has dropped by 0.7 cents per litre.

Furnace oil is also down, by about 1.49 cents per litre. Stove oil dropped by 1.06 cents per litre, while there was no change in propane heating fuel.
