FPI talks break off

Contract talks between Fisheries Products International and the fisheries union broke off Friday after wage negotiations failed.
FFAW president Earle McCurdy told reporters the company is asking for a $2 an hour wage rollback, which is less severe than its original offer of $2.66, but he said FPI would not negotiate with the union on its wage counter-offer.
McCurdy says the only option now is for the government to appoint a conciliation board to hear both sides and recommend a solution.
He says the union could go on strike, but he added there's not much point since most plants are now closed.
