Bus strike hard on disabled workers
The two-week long Metrobus strike in St. John's is making it more difficult for some people with physical disabilities to get to work.
The Hub, a facility that offers social services in the city, hires many people with disabilities who don't qualify for public transportation services for disabled people.
Tom Badcock, who runs the Hub, said many people who work there have been affected by the Metrobus strike.
"Those who use buses — and there are quite a few of them … They are, of course, taking taxis these days," he said
Metrobus drivers and mechanics have been off the job since Nov. 4.
Badcock said some people who work at the Hub do use the Wheelway system for people with disabilities. It isn't affected by the strike.
Badcock is using the Hub's own van to bring some workers to and from their jobs.
