The Manitoba government has announced six new park reserves are being designated under the Protected Areas Initiative.
Manitoba's Conservation Minister, Oscar Lathlin, says the areas will be protected from logging, mining, oil and natural gas development and hydroelectric power.
Among the six new park reserves are Grand Island, Goose Island and Pemmican Island Park, at the north end of Lake Winnipegosis.
Also included as protected areas are Pelican Island, Kinwow Bay and Sturgeon Bay Park.
