Irvings charged in workplace injury

Charges have been laid against J.D. Irving Limited in connection with an industrial accident at a sawmill in Valley, near Truro, Nova Scotia.

Charges have been laid against J.D. Irving Limited in connection with an industrial accident at a sawmill in Valley, near Truro, Nova Scotia.

The accident last summer involved a woman whose hand was caught in a piece of equipment.

Henry King, an inspector for the Nova Scotia Labour Department, says the company was charged with two counts of breaking health and safety regulations.

The company will enter a plea on January 22nd.

The sawmill is known locally as Sproule Lumber.

J.D.I. spokesperson Mary Keith would not comment on the incident while the case is before the courts.
