Montreal woman guilty of drug dealer's murder
Johanne Bariteau has been convicted of the second-degree murder of her drug dealer, Nicolas Terranova, in Montreal more than two years ago.
Johanne Bariteau was found guilty Friday of the second-degree murder of her drug dealer, Nicolas Terranova, in Montreal more than two years ago.
Terranova was hit over the head with a hammer 19 itimes on the night of Dec. 28, 2007. The 36-year-old dealer had gone to Bariteau’s home in the Verdun district of Montreal to deliver cocaine.
After four days of deliberations, jurors rejected the defence argument that Bariteau acted in self-defence.
Bariteau, a 51-year-old former real estate agent, claimed the drug dealer had tried to sexually assault her.
She automatically receives a life sentence. A sentencing hearing will be held April 19 to decide when she will be eligible for parole.
