A section of the Lachine Canal bike path west of Atwater Ave. will be closed until 2019.

Construction begins this month on the stretch of path situated south of the canal, which passes under Autoroute 15.

Construction will spread to the northern side in the fall.

Transport Quebec says a detour will be installed for cyclists on the northern Lachine Canal path.

The city councillor in the Sud-Ouest borough, Craig Sauvé, expressed disappointment that cyclists in the area would be impacted, calling it "bad news."

Some construction is already underway in the Sud-Ouest. It's all part of the new Turcot project.
