Winnipeg man starts preschool in Kenyan refugee camp
Preschool in Dadaab, Kenya now has 71 students between five and seven years old
One of the largest refugee camps in Kenya has a new preschool thanks to a Winnipeg man.
Muuxi Adam is a former Somali refugee who has started an organization called Human Kind International.
The organization, which was founded in 2008, managed to turn cash donations into a preschool in Dadaab in northeast Kenya.
The preschool opened in January and how has 71 students between five and seven years old.
Adam said the goal is to have 115 children enrolled by the end of March.
Adam is a father of two small children in Winnipeg and said he wanted to give back to other children.
“We send our children here to go to early childhood education and preschool because we believe that they are our future,” said Adam. “Same thing goes to those refugee children.”
Adam said all children, regardless of where they are born, deserve the same opportunities.
