Mountie investigated over alleged improper firearm storage
A Winnipeg RCMP officer is under investigation for allegedly storing a firearm improperly.
The Independent Investigations Unit of Manitoba said it is investigating a report of unsafe storage of a pistol, which allegedly happened on Aug. 11 in rural Manitoba. The IIU said it was notified of the incident on Aug. 15.
There were no injuries or other incidents reported as a result of the storage of the gun, the IIU said in a news release.
The IIU investigates any serious incident involving Manitoba police officers, on or off duty.
On Aug. 7, a Winnipeg police officer was injured when his gun fired while in his holster. The IIU said it was not investigating the incident because it hadn't received a formal report.
The IIU noted they did get a formal notification about the incident on Aug. 11, alleging a number of criminal code offences.
