Man dies at rooming house in West End Winnipeg, city's 10th homicide

Yellow tape surrounds a rooming house in Winnipeg's West End where police say they are investigating the city's 10th homicide of the year.

Officers were called just before 7 p.m. Sunday about a man who had been assaulted and was injured outside the multi-unit building on Langside Street, off Ellice Avenue.

He was rushed to hospital in unstable condition where he later died.

Evidence markers could be seen Monday morning in the front yard, where a pair of gloves lie on the ground about a metre away from blood-stained snow.

The police service's homicide unit is investigating.

The incident is the second homicide of the weekend.

John Gabriel, 38, died early Saturday morning from an apparent assault in the city's North End.

Police were called to the area of Salter Street near Selkirk Avenue at 2:40 a.m., where they found the man suffering from serious injuries.

He was transported to hospital in unstable condition and died of his injuries later in the morning.
