A local women's organization is looking to make it easier for newcomer women and youth find a job in Waterloo Region.

Facilitated by the YW of Kitchener-Waterloo, "In Her Shoes" is an employment and entrepreneurship training program dedicated to supporting and uplifting women who face barriers to employment.

The group just received over $811,000 in funding from the federal government to help support the program.

"Addressing the barriers that newcomer women are facing is critical to supporting their settlement journey," Raj Saini, MP for Kitchener Centre said in a release.

The program is targeted at newcomer women who face issues such as gender and race-based discrimination, low income employment and lack of affordable childcare.

The YW Kitchener-Waterloo is one of 22 organizations selected from across the country to receive similar funding.
