The Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony wants to know what motivates people to attend concerts as part of efforts to reach out to those that don't often attend.

The symphony has put out a short online survey for people to fill out. It will be up for the next three weeks.

"Getting in touch with people who don't currently attend is a bit harder, so we're making an appeal across the community," said Andrew Bennett, executive director of the K-W Symphony.

Bennett said staff would like to know what key factors would make a difference to people when attending a concert.

He said it can be as simple as finding parking, or as complex as inclusivity and the language used to promote their events.

"It's a really big range of people who attend our concerts, but we can always do better," Bennett said.

He adds it's important for organizations, including an arts organization like the symphony, to know what motivates people and what makes them want to get involved.

Bennett hopes people's feedback will help shape future programming and community outreach.

"It's a constant process of evolution," he said.

"The reason orchestras have been around for a couple of hundred years is because they have that attitude that they evolve in order to grow and succeed."
