Man dead from hypothermia after vehicle crash into snow-filled ditch
Police believe the driver left the vehicle on his own and was found dead a short distance away from the crash
A 77-year-old man is dead after his car left the road and crashed into a deep snow-filled ditch in Flamborough on Boxing Day morning, near Patrick Street and Sager Road.
Hamilton Police Service were called to the scene just after 8 a.m. on Tuesday. They say the driver left the vehicle on his own and was found dead with a head injury a short distance away from the collision. Alcohol and speed were likely not factors.
A post-mortem on Wednesday morning determined the cause of death to be hypothermia, and not a result of the injury from the collision.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit and Division 30 detectives are investigating the death.
Police remain unsure of the time of the collision and are calling for witnesses who were in the area from Dec. 25 just before midnight to Dec. 26 at 8 a.m.
