The 42-year-old was shot outside a convenience store Tuesday
A 42-year-old man shot by Hamilton police on Tuesday has died.
Ontario's Special Investigations Unit is investigating the shooting that happened in a convenience store parking lot at Cannon Street East and Gage Avenue North.
The police watchdog confirmed the man died of his injuries around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday.
Hamilton police initially said they were responding to a call about an active domestic incident when they saw a man with a firearm in the vehicle.
Police approached the vehicle, the SIU says, and after an interaction, two officers fired their guns.
The man was hit and transported to hospital in critical condition.
Two police-issued firearms and a shotgun were recovered from the scene, according to the SIU.
The unit said it's continuing to investigate the shooting.
Two subject officers have been designated and the four witness officers have been interviewed.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the SIU.
